Monster of the Week #21

This week we look at Kult: Divinity Lost. Kult has many interesting opponents for your players, but one that caught our attention this week was The Seamstress.

The Seamstress is a cruel being that splits your body apart, only to offer to stitch you back together for a small price - to hear about your life int he waking world. She reminds me of how the Cenobites work in Hellraiser, so we're in for something much nastier than usual.

The Seamstress is a Dream being that populates their world with the bodies of dead humans, zombified by her powers. They wander around the Seamstress' home, attacking intruders and protecting her at all costs.

She will reside in her home sewing up her latest tapestry, surrounded by the organs of her victims.

A really nasty turn from the usual monster picks, but one that fits the coming Halloween period!

Kult is a game not particularly easy to win when performing combat, and with opponents like this, you can see how players may be dissuaded from attacking the supernatural.

The Seamstress has considerable fighting, magic and influence powers to use against her foes (and your players) that could make for a really interesting encounter for one of your games.

Under Combat, this foe can:
  1. Command human followers
  2. Stitch together limbs
  3. Rip open wounds
  4. Can us her needle and thread to lock up players
  5. Attack with her fingernails
Between bringing in even more opponents for players to face, the others can deal serious damage to the players - especially in a grisly fashion. This in combination with her other abilities can make for a unique encounter, and make this foe more than a brutal encounter.

Under her Magic, the Seamstress has the following:
  1. Manipulating the dream
  2. Tear someone apart by will
  3. Repairing a torn being
  4. Create and control it's human dolls.
One of the more frightening abilities of this creature is the Tear Apart ability - instantly maiming a character who has heard the Seamstress' haunting melody.

Excepting special abilities, this creature has the ability to manipulate and controls others in a very effective ways.

A unique mechanic in Kult is the Harm actions a monster gets when it receives harm (basically HP). Some of these can give her bonuses or help the players. For example, one of them means the Seamtress' arm falls off and must be sewed back on (meaning +1 to the players next move against her), but in other cases, players could be knocked prone. At the GM's discretion, you could very easily expand on this list to make it more dynamic based on the context of your fights - something I find really appealing about the Kult system.

So that's it for this week. There's a bunch of great monsters in the Kult universe (if you can stomach it!), and with our group starting the Black Madonna game in the near future (maybe at Halloween...), we may see more making their Hellish appearance.

Thanks for reading everyone, and until next time, good gaming!
