Monster of the Week #14

This week we hop over to the Grothlut - one of Pathfinder's abominations that your party can face.

These creatures are great for body horror games, especially considering they are often humans that have turned into slug-like abominations.

Lore explains these creatures are failed Fleshwarp experiments and are often used as Shocktroopers. These could be a great creature to mix into a large fight in a Fleshwarp's lab.

Grothluts are particularly tricky, as they have a couple of abilities which make them harder to handle than a typical abomination.

Abilities

One of the things they can do is blow up... That's right - they explode when they die and can affect everyone in a 30 ft raise around them. The DC is high at a 19, and on a fail the victim takes 2d6 acid damage and is sickened 1 (or double that damage and sickened level 2 on a critical failure). So just as you think it is over, it can blow up and make your day a whole lot worse!

Additionally, the creature can make others sick by being in their vicinity. Anyone who fails a DDC 17 Will save becomes sickened level 2 on a critical failure). It is a free action to activate or deactivate this aura, and acts like a concentration spell - so it can be quite a party juggling ability to use.

Seems like a fun monster to have for a group of adventurers to me! I'll be looking at adding this creature into my first Pathfinder 2e game somehow - whether this is a standard NPC or a larger foe (with appropriate modifications) is still to be seen!

Short review this week, but I found myself scrambling to pick over multiple monsters in the Pathfinder 2e Bestiary! That book has more than 400 monster stats in it - I was spoiled for choice!

I hope this monster gives you some inspiration for any of yours games. Until next time - good gaming, Keepers!
